- Build a model spreadsheets: These are Excel-based problems that included for most numerical chapters. At the back of each chapter, there are many numerical questions, including a "spreadsheet problem" (usually the last problem in each chapter, right before the mini-case). Finance uses spreadsheets a lot so the spreadsheet problem for the textbook just allows you to use Excel to solve problems. The "build a model spreadsheets" documents the spreadsheet problem and provides some instructions as to how students can solve the problems in Excel.
- Excel tool kits: These spreadsheets document all the calculations that are done in the text's presentation. For each chapter, if there are calculations performed during the discussion, they will all be shown in the "tool kits". Use these to follow along with the readings.
- TVM: Some instructors like to use financial tables when performing discounted cash flow analysis (time value of money calculations). In FIL 440, we will not use tables, but instead we will use financial calculators (or Excel) to solve problems. Therefore, you do not need this spreadsheet.
- Web chapters: These are basically appendices to many of the chapters in the book. Sometimes they provide more information about a particular subject and other times they provide more advanced discussion just for completeness. From time to time I may mention these web extensions in class.
